We’re in an era in which quick-turnaround retros are the norm; it’s not entirely uncommon for a shoe to trickle back to shelves just a few years after its initial run. When it comes to the New Balance “Protection Pack” series, the return feels particularly warranted — both a fan favorite and a program that helped the street viability of their retro runners gain additional credence.
Those who caught our coverage of replenished stock earlier in the year may have been greeted by an unwelcome catch inside, as the three original 2002R pairs that came back anew were exclusive to European markets. The Boston brand is now set to right that wrong. Indeed, the three original New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack” colorways — in “Raincloud,” “Phantom,” and “Sea Salt” — are set to embark on a stateside comeback. If that overseas endeavor is any indication, these will be on shelves exactly true to their original construction — perfect for those who missed out on the 2021 OGs or as a refresh for those who didn’t.
As confirmed in the comment section, the New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack” will be released via Extra Butter on November 15th. In some fitting symmetry, you’ll note that the LIC imprint was the first to release the deconstructed capsule in its initial run. Catch some in-hand shots of the “updated” pairs below.
