Andrew Rizzo Whether his Nike sneakers have caught on is a different story entirely, but there’s no denying that Nigo collaborating with the Swoosh has been one of the more surprising developments in the sneaker industry over the past few years, something that would have been unthinkable back in the 2000s. The BAPE and Human Made co-founder has made the once-obscure Nike Air Force 3 his own, releasing a steady stream of projects since last fall.
Next up for Nigo and company is a “Kintsugi” pack inspired by traditional Japanese craftsmanship. To the uninitiated, kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery by mending cracks with lacquer mixed with powdered metals, creating something new from something broken and celebrating the beauty of imperfection.
With its elaborate layering, the Air Force 3 serves as an ideal canvas for the theme to come to life. Textured leather and asymmetrical color blocking define the pack, with both pairs contrasting white and black or gold panels across the forefoot. Gold accents on the toebox and insoles continue the motif, while satin sock liners add a touch of elegance. Mirrored “Origin” branding on the right heel, now something of a hallmark for Nigo x Nike collaborations, rounds out the details.
