As we begin turning the page to 2026, we can’t help but look back at the themes that defined footwear this year. Jordan Brand’s 40th anniversary delivered plenty of headlines, sure, but the bigger story might be that 2025 has been the year of the “weird,” so to speak. The controversial New Balance loafer helped spark a wave of viral hybrid loafers and slip-ons, none louder in essence than the chunky Jordan Mule.

The Jordan Mule feels like the estranged sibling of the Jordan 1 Brooklyn, another platformed AJ1 that’s drawn plenty of attention and eye rolls. A thick, aggressively grooved sole pairs with a slip-on mule upper, clashing formal and funky for an aesthetic that’s unapologetically out there. This pair features “Dark Team Red” patent leather, but other versions have experimented with suede and even animal prints.
