Matt Varga Is Jordan Brand finally letting themselves be a bit unserious? Longtime collectors will know that a bulk of the brand’s early releases tied into some vaunted moment from Michael Jordan’s playing career, only a natural marketing play given how legendary many of his milestones were.
To be sure, the Jumpman doesn’t even particularly need much of a narrative justification for adult pairs anymore; plenty of pairs on a yearly basis are predicated simply on presenting a fresh color scheme or a trendy touch. However loosely necessary those heady strictures may be in grown-up sizes, they’re entirely gone for kids’ versions of Retros, and the Air Jordan 3 “We Outside” is founded on being animated and playful.
Eccentric touches like extending the elephant print onto the eyestays, adding neon green speckles in the midsole, and tacking on checkerboard laces all confirm that. A Jumpman carabiner and pebbled insert paper further cement the theme, all but certainly an overall celebration of play that cleverly loops in a slangy title.
The Air Jordan 3 “We Outside” has already appeared on certain retail calendars with a January 1st date attached, listed for $155 in grade school sizing, $95 in preschool, and $75 in toddlers’. Do note that it’s equally possible that the 1/1 date is simply a placeholder, and this pair could be coming more generally in January.
