The footwear industry and those engaged in the hobby of collecting have always been a place of quick turnaround. Save for the absolute most significant drops, oftentimes the mindset after any given release is “what’s next?” The holiday calendar isn’t exempt from that by a long shot, and though ink is barely dry on “Christmas” pairs, the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Horse are now the primary celebratory focus.
New Balance is getting in on the action with a just-revealed, six-piece Year of the Horse collection, uniting many of their freshest formulations with a stable lifestyle one that’s been part of the fold for what feels like forever. Indeed, the New Balance 2000 leads things off with a sleek black and red, before the New Balance 2010 tacks on a far earthier formulation. While the former largely keeps its construction intact from mainline pairs, the 2010 works woven patterns onto its tongue, further adding chain-like mesh at its bottom layer.

Then to a pack of two-pieces, beginning with the New Balance 204L. The rendy low-pro model is the one that takes the theme most literally, adding pony hair patches onto the heel of two adjacent earthy editions, either joined by a black contrast platform below. Finally, the New Balance 574 closes with two flooded looks in tan and black.
The New Balance “Year of the Horse” collection is queued up in Asian markets for a January 1st release, but word on when (or whether) these will hit the US hasn’t trickled out just yet. In the meantime, catch official product images of all six shoes included below.
