Nike is gearing up to release Jason Williams’ Nike Hyperflight PE from his Sacramento Kings days, positioning the drop as the centerpiece of a larger retro run for the model’s 25th anniversary. What’s more is Williams is reportedly set to host a Nike SNKRS launch event in Los Angeles for All-Star Weekend.
Fans remember Williams for his elite playmaking, no-look dimes, and the effortless swagger that helped cement “White Chocolate” as one of the coldest nicknames the game has ever seen. He’s stepped back into the spotlight post-retirement through the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, where he breaks down today’s game and shares stories from his career.
Williams entered the league with Nike before making the jump to AND1 in 2003, lacing up a variety of Swoosh models during his early run. He’s most strongly associated with the Nike Hyperflight, trotting out a purple patent leather PE during his Kings days. Marketed at the time as Nike Basketball’s lightest performance shoe, the sleek silhouette fit Williams’ up-tempo style perfectly.
For Nike, the recent success of Deion Sanders shoes shows there’s real upside in reconnecting with former athlete partners. Williams might not command Prime Time levels of attention, but this reunion is certainly one worth watching.
