Andrew Rizzo With White Chocolate back on board, the Nike Zoom Hyperflight is poised for a full-scale retro run for its 25th anniversary. NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles marked the model’s rebirth, with Nike treating attendees to an early release of Jason Williams’ “Sacramento Kings” PE. However, as was a common theme throughout the weekend, Nike had a little something extra in tow.
Here we have a Zoom Hyperflight “Warning Label” promo sample, finished in iridescent gold to complement the larger LA-exclusive Nike Basketball pack. Direct your attention to the backtab and heel portion of the outsole, both stamped with graffiti-inspired “LA” artwork that’s appeared on myriad past Nike drops. The sneaker won’t release, but pairs were available at the Nike Future Games seeding suite exclusively for athletes and invitees.
Designed by Foamposite creator Eric Avar as part of the Nike Alpha Project, the Zoom Hyperflight debuted in 2001 and was billed as Nike’s lightest basketball shoe ever, built for shifty, high-energy guards. Even without its impending retro run, the model remains in conversation thanks to the Nike GT Future, a new silhouette inspired by the retrofuturistic hoops design language of the ’90s and early 2000s. For OG collectors, though, there’s no substitute for the real thing.
