What’s more predictable is the next steps for the Moon Shoe following that pair of Jacquemus capsules. In a tried-and-tested Beaverton strategy, that high-fashion link-up is but an appetizer for a full-blown retro. Official images of the silhouette’s simplistic white and black colorway have just come across our desk, confirming a general release run for the model in the works.

For the uninitiated, the Moon Shoe is a tangible representation of Nike’s nascent days and their commitment to innovation in that period. Now an infamous piece of Swoosh lore, Bill Bowerman sacrificed a waffle iron in the process of developing the square notches in the outsole, then a nigh-unprecedented solution to providing runners with traction in the heat of a race. Early feedback from those who tested the new design helped hone it into a product ready for market, and some of their tongue-in-cheek observations of how its footprint resembled astronauts on lunar walks led to the title it’s held ever since.
Could the Oregon coach have predicted this performance-to-fashion turn some fifty years later? Whether its moodboard-approved quality would jibe with Bowerman’s original ideas is a story for another day. With these updated shots, we can clock some subtle changes: an oversized Swoosh, a fold-over collar on the heel, and chunkier paneling overall. Trust that the thinned sidewalls, minimal cushioning, and, of course, the groundbreaking waffle sole remain intact.
