The GEL-Kayano 14 is a rock in the ASICS catalog. As the Japanese giant explores experimental, boundary-pushing fare with partners like Kiko Kostadinov or entirely of their own volition, the retro runner is unwavering in both its success and its penchant for easily-worn, techy colorways.

Perhaps aiming to ape another catlog peer in the GEL-1130, minting one of the brand’s modern best-sellers with its “Black/Pure Silver” colorway, the GK14 gets stealthy as summer approaches. Bucking the usual tone-on-silver trappings you’ll see on city sidewalks, instead the silhouette embraces a dusky foundation through much of its real estate, only breaking with patches of bright synthetics across the quarter panels, eyestays, and heel. Of course, you can’t escape any GEL-Kayano 14 without a touch of chrome, and this pair finds space for that in the branching panel that goes from mid-midsole to collar.
