Sneaker News Lil Yachty’s next Nike collaboration is taking an unexpected turn. After establishing the Air Force 1 Low as the foundation of his growing partnership with Nike, the Atlanta artist is now turning his attention to the Air Force 1 Mid in a funky new execeution. Newly surfaced images reveal a collaboration that not only expands Yachty’s Air Force 1 catalog, but introduces one of the more unconventional material executions we’ve seen on the silhouette in recent memory.
At first glance, the shoe immediately stands apart from previous Concrete Boys projects. Rather than relying on traditional leather construction, the upper is covered in a textured grey material flecked with multicolored fibers throughout. The unusual fabric resembles industrial insulation or packing material more than it does conventional sneaker textiles, giving the Air Force 1 Mid a distinctly rugged and unfinished appearance. That same material wraps the entirety of the midsole. This could be a play on the blue-collar aspect of the Concrete Boys name.
The Concrete Boys mascot appears on the heel, while “IT’S US” is stamped prominently on the tongue, reinforcing the collaborative identity that has become central to Yachty’s Nike releases. Despite the material overhaul, the shoe retains the familiar Air Force 1 Mid construction, including the signature ankle strap.
Release details have yet to be announced, but one thing is already clear: Lil Yachty continues to approach the Air Force 1 differently. Whether intentional or not, the shoe’s insulation-like construction gives it a look that feels closer to an early design sample than a finished retail product—and that’s precisely what makes it so intriguing.
