Basketcase now figures to be a frequent guest of the American giant, now kicking off their second wide collaboration on the New Balance Gator Run. Though the silhouette they chose has its roots in football, fútbol is instead the top line of the brief. Centered around the concept of “The Alternates,” those who are included on the roster but may not come from central casting in that regard, Basketcase offers vibrant overhauls of the throwback model that sharply break from what it’s offered unassisted.
Joined by expressive alternate laces, gum soles, white liners, and mesh/suede materiality, the “Hacky” and “Maiden” each celebrate World Cup style from opposite ends of the spectrum. The “Hacky” is an instantly legible homage, pairing yellow siding with grass green shaggy suede a layer above. The “Maiden” takes a calmer direction, offering the unexpected combination of wine overlays and light blue foundations. Either pair closes with vintage star logos on the heel above “BASKET / CASE” spell-outs across the left and right.
The Basketcase x New Balance Gator Run releases exclusively via Basketcase’s site on June 12th at 12 PM PST. An in-store release follows in Los Angeles on June 13th and 14th.
