Andrew Rizzo Long Island’s biggest party of the summer is right around the corner as the 126th US Open tees off at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton next week, and per usual, Nike Golf has a special release lined up.
Nike Golf has gotten accustom to hyperspecific tournament references, from a trash-inspired Pegasus ’89 Golf for the Waste Management Open to an Air Max 90 Golf inspired by King James II’s ban on the sport for the Scottish Open. This one takes a more pared-back approach, drawing from Long Island’s rich nautical history with an anchor graphic on the tongue, rope laces, and a small compass tag on the lateral heel. The insoles feature golf course graphics, and a special Long Island map card is included with each pair.
While inline Air Max 90 Golf styles typically feature flush synthetic uppers, these go a more traditional route with dedicated panels for the quarter, mudguard, and so on. Sea Glass, Spruce Fog, and Olive Aura coat the bulk of the delivery, while Fir green animates the Swooshes and backtab branding. Rugged traction ensures the shoes are well equipped for any course terrain you might encounter.
