Climacool has gone from a buzzy entrance into the world of 3D-printed footwear for the Three Stripes into a sprawling category. Now, it supports that tech-forward silhouette in slip-on and laced arrangements, the original Climacool as a retro proposition, and, recently inducted, the Climacool System, which you may have caught on the sidelines at the World Cup (in between the hydration breaks, perhaps).
adidas is still tinkering around the edges of the original offering. Debuting on a “Solar Turbo” execution, the Climacool Laced now further presses towards standard sneaker tooling with a freshened sole unit, adding a patch of gridded rubber underfoot to brace the honeycomb finish at the bottom of the design. Outside of next-gen aesthetics, breathability remains the bedrock of the Climacool, but that open-knit hardware could become a pain point in everyday use. This new addition may mean the on-foot experience is a bit different, but overall should make pulling your pair out of the closet a less maintenance-intensive endeavor; all things considered, a reasonable trade-off.
