Matt Varga Nike SB has hoovered up a host of crossover models in recent years; the Jordan 4, the Air Force 1, the Air Max 95. Clearly, with some serious marketing dollars going to the revitalized Tennis Classic, Beaverton has aims at positioning the erstwhile “Wimbledon” as a timeless icon in much the same way as the aformentioned. Is that the reason the Nike SB Tennis Classic is currently in the consciousness?
Outside of longtime Nike SB devotees, we couldn’t fault you for coming to that conclusion, but the Nike SB Tennis Classic is back in our lives as a retro, not as a first-time inductee to the sub-brand’s orbit. Indeed, crashing into the catalog in 2005, it’s already been worked on by the likes of Supreme, a foundation that makes its inclusion in the “Club 58” concept all the more sensible.
An unofficial cadre of some of Beaverton’s most trusted skate storefronts, Club 58 is in focus for the World Cup, heading the “La Mas Fina” collection that includes the tennis model and the 110. Now revealed via official images, the Classic dons the same sunset insoles, but sticks to a classy combo of pink nubuck and black trim, finished with American traditional branding on the interior tongue.
The Nike SB Tennis Classic “Club 58” releases on July 7th via retailers and SNKRS, clocking in at $105. The range of apparel options and the Nike SB Air Max 95 we covered here are dropping alongside via those same channels.
