Matt Varga We’re just over a year since Tyler, The Creator dropped off DON’T TAP THE GLASS. Outside of a freestyle here and there, the airwaves have been devoid of new material, but given his varied interests and business ventures, he hasn’t been absent from the headlines in the slightest. With the shakeup in their basketball category, you can now credibly claim that the Hawthorne native is the most important figure in the Boston brand’s Rolodex, seen again with the release of the Tyler, The Creator Converse Pro Leather.
The latest effort out of their shared “1908” series, a crate-digging program in which Mr. Okonma has brought back archival silhouettes with modernized materials and palettes, the Pro Leather XL makes good on its title by crafting a chunky version of the erstwhile hoops shoe. An embossed star on the toe adds a bit more charm and edge.
After a white leather version and a green suede counterpart, we’re now getting a detailed look at a red suede follow-up. Those who have been watching this sneaker’s rollout as carefully as we have will know this is one we’ve already seen, worn by the man himself at the Jackass: Best and Last premiere. While the viridescent tones utilized on the debut colorways did so to a degree, the light blue/vivid red interplay on this pair is the clearest expression of Tyler’s trademark eccentric design language.
A firm date for the Tyler, The Creator x Converse Pro Leather in red hasn’t been announced yet, but this is likely to join a previously seen black/white version in the multi-hyphenate’s next “1908” launch.
