The University of Miami and Nike are officially getting back together. Beginning in July 2027, the Hurricanes will once again wear the Swoosh as part of a new multi-year partnership, ending Miami’s run with adidas and reuniting two brands whose history stretches back four decades.
In 1987, Miami became the first university to sign an all-sport partnership with Nike, establishing a relationship that would help shape the modern collegiate apparel business. But the influence of “The U” extended well beyond wins and championships. Miami’s orange and green became a legitimate fashion statement throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, fueled by swagger on the field and an extraordinary pipeline of players who went on to NFL stardom.
Nike says it will outfit Miami teams with new uniforms, footwear, and apparel, while also promising “premium collections” that pay homage to the eras and moments that built Hurricanes history. In other words, Nike appears ready to dig into a very deep archive and do what they do best, which is to tell stories through their gear.
Miami athletes will also join Nike’s Blue Ribbon Elite NIL program and gain access to resources from the Nike Sport Research Lab, adding a significant performance component to the partnership.
