The shoe maintains much of the ultra-slim DNA that has defined the Miu Miu x New Balance 530 SL, but reworks the upper to more closely resemble traditional ballet footwear, pushing an already low-profile sneaker even further away from the standard New Balance 530 that originally inspired it.
Ballet-inspired footwear has become one of the defining trends in women’s casual sneakers, with virtually every major footwear brand offering its own interpretation over the last several seasons.
For New Balance, the Miu Miu partnership provides a decidedly more luxurious entry into the ballet sneaker conversation. The two brands have already found success radically slimming down the 530, so the ballerina treatment is somewhat of a risk.
