The New York Liberty just announced an Air Force 1 release, dressing the NYC staple almost entirely in the franchise’s signature minty shade fittingly borrowed from the Statue of Liberty itself.
Clearly, these aren’t your average AF1s. Nike opted for the Air Force 1 Jewel, a variation of the ’82 classic that sneakerheads and AF1 fanatics have long cherished. Along with the variant Swoosh, Nike adds some key details like the Statue of Liberty’s torch etched into the heel, the Liberty’s own torch logo on the insoles, and a white embroidered WNBA logo at the rear.
The WNBA regular season wraps up on September 24th, and with the Liberty having secured its place in the postseason, it feels right to commemorate a solid campaign as they head into the final stretch with hopes of making another championship run just two years after winning the franchise’s first title.
The New York Liberty’s Nike Air Force 1 Low Jewel is dropping really soon; they’ll be available first-come-first-serve at the Liberty’s official team store on September 21st at 12 PM ET.
