The Nike Air Force 1 Turns The Charm Up With Extended Tongues

Good companies copy. Great companies steal. Perhaps that’s a blunt assessment of how charmed footwear have taken over the industry, but it’s now undeniable that the success of a certain California skate brand’s “Pearlized” aesthetics have been adopted and co-opted by their competitors. For their part, Nike hasn’t wasted any time in bringing their own interpretations to the catalog, as the Nike Air Force 1 “Charms” in “Anthracite” shows once again.

It’s a double-whammy with this pair, adding new hardware and jewelry expression to their always-on icon. Of course, we’re referencing a soccer-like fold-over tongue, an unexpected look for the AF1 but one it takes the distance with embedded stars, pearls, and buckles in stainless steel. To match that, Nike goes minimalistic with the branding, reaching for a pronounced silver Swoosh on the ide and debossed “Nike Air” on the heel. To keep this pair grounded overall, tumbled “Anthracite” leather coats almost all of this shoe, allowing the studded choices elsewhere to really take center stage.
