We certainly spend our fair share of time on rivalries here at Sneaker News, whether on industry head-to-heads like the Three Stripes vs. the Swoosh, or adversarial player relationships like that between Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren or Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. For the next step in their sturdy collab series, Shake James and his Clicks imprint are looking to the animal kingdom for the adidas XLG 2.0 “Wild Rivals” pack.
The mandrill and the African rock python are the species that James and his imprint look to for the “exploded” tech runner silhouette. We’re not fluent enough in the world of wildlife biology to accurately describe the snake and primate’s interactions in the natural world, but it doesn’t take a master’s degree to pick out where those real-life creatures paint the erstwhile “Squid.” The mandrill’s famously colorful facial features inspire a bright yellow sole unit, aquatic blue siding, and splashes of red down the midline. Fittingly, the African Rock Python adidas XLG 2.0 utilizes lends sneaksin textures to the mesh base of the shoe, before a standout grey-to-tan gradient plays out on the synthetic overlays and the midsole. Subtle black trim grounds this design overall to close.
Currently, the Clicks x adidas XLG 2.0 “Wild Rivals” is expected to release sometime this Holiday season, likely clocking in a bit above the silo’s standard $150 retail price. In the meantime, feast your eyes on early first look images below.
