Nike’s latest Air Max 90 is as appropriate for Sunday service as it is sidewalk flexing. If you were out copping sneakers during the Beaverton brand’s peak NikeLab era in the mid-2010s, you already know the vibes.
Conceived as both a retail concept and a product line for elevated footwear across lifestyle and sport, NikeLab’s lasting impact looms large here. The upper is completely reworked, the Air Max 90 forgoing its usual paneling in favor of stitched outlines for the quarter, mudguard, Swoosh, and so on. The eyestays and heel badge maintain their independence, albeit now in perforated black leather rather than TPU. The Nike Air branding on the heel is removed as well for a less sporty, more contemporary feel. For the refined sneakerhead or 9 to 5 office worker, these are strong.
The Nike Air Max 90 SP “Black Leather” lands soon via Nike and select retailers, probably the brand’s Tier 0 network of stores. Retail is set at $150 given the style’s premium positioning.
