While it may no longer command the same attention as a collaboration vehicle, the ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 remains that guy among retro tech runners, consistently turning up in colorways that strike the increasingly fine line between contemporary wearability and unabashed sporty nostalgia. Next up is an “Illusion Blue” makeup that shelves neutral colors for a wonderfully 2010s, gym-coded execution, coming soon to ASICS.com and select retailers.
Giving off a slight “Wolverine” vibe not unlike the recent Kith x ASICS x Marvel vs. Capcom pack, the Kayano 14 turns up the energy with a bright blue mesh base and silver leather across the overlays. Black takes over the inner lining and heel panel, while the GEL cushioning housed within the midsole gets a slightly pre-yellowed tint.
The look falls neatly into the broader resurgence of traditional, somewhat ironic tech-runner colorways. We’re not talking about the cream-and-beige executions designed to make an old running shoe feel contemporary, but modern-day reprisals of the kinds of loud, athletic color schemes that would have felt perfectly at home in a gym class 15 years ago. Of course, that intention only gets you so far if the shoe doesn’t actually look good. This one looks great.
The ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 “Illusion Blue” releases Fall/Winter 2026 for $160 via ASICS and select retailers. See official images below if you’re considering adding a pair to your rotation.
