Sean Wotherspoon just popped out with his best sneaker collab since his iconic Air Max 97/1. Following a pit stop at ASICS and a large body of work with adidas, the Round Two co-founder turned collaborator extraordinaire is linking with Mizuno for a two pair pack centered on the Wave MG4 LS, unveiled here via an Instagram post.
A joint effort between Wotherspoon and Japanese designer Uchida “Uchi” Ryunosuke, the collaboration consists of two styles, one poised for a wide release and another toned down look set aside as a Japan exclusive. The global version is, thankfully, the star of the show. The project lives on the Mizuno Wave MG4 LS, a 2006-born retro runner akin to era-adjacent offerings by ASICS and Saucony, filling much the same role for Mizuno.
Our first impression: these things are beautiful. Light wash denim lives at the heart of the upper, laying a beautiful foundation that fits perfectly within Sean’s vintage fashion world. The Mizuno side motifs and forefoot overlays are done in grey with blue stripes, complemented by silver leather at the rear for a nice clash of boho and Y2K vibes. The upper eyelets are framed by yellow accents, while red hits on the inner lining and outsole, small in surface area, do a ton to balance out the blue seen elsewhere. The Japan exclusive sports the same material mix, albeit in simpler colors so as to echo a Japanese sense of minimalism.
The Sean Wotherspoon x Mizuno Wave MG4 LS releases October 30th worldwide via Mizuno and select retailers. See detailed images below if you’ll be going for a pair.
