From budget-friendly omakase to late night chopped cheeses, the New York food scene is vast in its range of options. And with each week, it seems new spots are opening up on every corner, churning out trendy dishes such as the extremely Instagram-able Korean corn dog. Though these viral sensations — and the stomach turning “Ocky Way” — are what many come to expect from the city, there exists an equal amount of institutions which have formed tight-knit communities purely through good food and hospitality.
Cuts & Slices, a Black-owned pizzeria situated in Bed Stuy, is one such spot. And to pay homage to this prized neighborhood gem, adidas has provided the shop their very own Forum ’84 Hi, which features direct nods to the work of founder and longtime sneakerhead Randy Mclaren. Alongside a “CUTS & SLICES” embroidery across the heel, the pair features the restaurant’s address atop its collar and a logo-adorned hangtag just adjacent. “Pull Up Beloved” is also written on the strap, which is clad in a cream shade not unlike that of pizza dough. And save for the sections dressed in a bright white, the rest of colorway aids said connection, as a deep, sauce-like red is spread from the toe through to the heel.
