On December 7th, 2019, A Ma Maniere launched two pairs of the Nike Air Force 1 “Hand Wash Cold“. More recently, James Whitner, owner of the Whitaker Group, has taken to social media to announce a much more limited Friend and Family edition of the low-top collaboration.
While little has been revealed about the upcoming Air Force 1 Low, the Whitner-provided first-look displays a pair indulged in a muted color palette similar to last December’s joint-effort. Fine black suede takes over most of the sneaker’s iconic panels, with grey underlays interrupting the tonal arrangement throughout the tongue and heel. Sneakers don’t appear to be individually numbered, but lateral heels are debossed with “A MA MANIÉRE” text, while rear overlays feature graphics found on care-tag instruction. Sockliners also sport these figures, in addition to a direct nod to the first collaboration’s “Hand Wash Cold” moniker.
As with Whitner’s previous duo, the forthcoming pair revolves around giving back, a belief Whitner has been particularly vocal about over the last year. In August, the Pittsburgh-native announced his solidarity for Black lives in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake. On this front, Whitner has expressed that this special collaboration will also be extended to “People who use their voices to lead”.
