Jeff Staple’s contributions to the modern wave of sneakerhead culture cannot be understated, his legendary ‘Pigeon’ Dunk Low SB collaboration a watershed moment in the 21st century movement that cemented New York’s sneaker capital status and Nike SB’s street cred, and created a sense of excitement the likes of which so many designers have sought to replicate. Staple himself has revisited the Pigeon theme a number of times, including thrice now with New Balance, who’ve released different color bases on different classic running silhouettes in 2008, ’09 and now coming up in just over a week.
The Staple Design x Size? x New Balance 577 ‘Black Pigeon’ makes good on a teaser image we saw one week less than one year ago today that had until this point been without a follow-up of any kind. The color and materials appear identical after the long break, but we can see now that the tongue embroidery has been altered to reflect the version three-ness of this latest Staple New Bal collabo. A bit too “low-down and dirty” to fit in with the rest of the Pigeon clan, this delayed NB577 touches down in London to celebrate the Flimby Factory’s 30th birthday at select Size? locations in the UK and Paris, along with their e-store starting next Saturday, November 17th. Also for stateside heads they will of course be up for grabs at Staple’s own Reed Space in NYC. We’re heading into a serious heatwave on the verge of the holiday shopping season, so have a closer look below and let us know how these compare to both Staple’s earlier (NB) collaborations as well as your other rapidly approaching options.
