This Holiday 2016 season, Jordan Brand is bringing back two iconic releases with the Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” and the Space Jam Jordan 11. Each pair utilizes retro Nike branding, a remastered form that pays closer attention to the original molds and construction throughout for a premium finish, but each comes at a premium price point of $220 USD. Even with the added Swoosh branding and legendary status of these two colorways, are they enough to solidify Jordan Brand’s usual dominance of the upcoming holiday season?
Added competition is always a good thing for consumers, and adidas Originals has given Nike and Jordan Brand a run for their money in the lifestyle department thanks to smart Primeknit and Boost offerings with the continued success of the adidas NMD and adidas Ultra Boost. The gotta-have-it attitude still lives on with Jordan retro releases, but that once untouchable mystique and nostalgia diminished when most of their retro product sits readily available on shelves weeks after initially releasing, and sometimes at a discount. While this is undoubtedly due to ramped up production and an effort to kill the secondary resale market, how much of this trend could also be due to changing interests in the sneaker world?
The Jumpman’s holiday plans remain as strong as ever still. The Space Jam 11s will come equipped with a new construction to more closely resemble sample pairs that Michael Jordan broke out during the 1995 playoffs for the first time ever. This means that ’45’ PE branding will pay homage to his first season back in the pros after a brief baseball hiatus while the insoles even keep a Nike Swoosh branding to authenticate things. The True Blue 3s haven’t released since 2011 and a new remastered construction will benefit the iconic lifestyle colorway thanks to a premium leather upper and that ‘Nike Air’ heel.
