Ross Dwyer The fictional underwater town of Bikini Bottom is washing ashore this summer, as Kyrie Irving and Nike have joined forces with the beloved cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants for a colorful capsule collection. Consisting of five total designs, the collection blesses the show’s five most important characters with their own shoes: SpongeBob, Patrick Star, and Squidward are all represented by the Nike Kyrie 5, while Mr. Krabs and Sandy Cheeks get a little love on the Nike Kyrie Low 2.
SpongeBob’s porous yellow body is front and center on his Nike shoes, and accented with red/brown for a nod to his signature outfit. Patrick’s punchy pink complexion and bubbly nature are nodded to on the upper of his Kyrie 5, while his green shorts are acknowledged on the midsole and outsole. Squidward’s Kyrie 5 keeps things relatively simple by comparison, using his gruff combination of seafoam green and light blue that’s completed by a unique heel hit. Meanwhile, SpongeBob’s boss/burger maven Mr. Krabs gets a bright red Kyrie Low 2 accented by blue, gold, and a green money print plus a special hit on the medial side provided by his arch-nemesis Plankton. Last but certainly not least, terrific Texan squirrel Sandy Cheeks’s Kyrie Low 2s nod to the colors and details of her astronaut suit. All five feature their character’s visage on the insole, and will also be accompanied by matching apparel. The Kyrie 5s retail at $130, while the Kyrie Low 2s slide in at a slightly lower $110 price point.
