Visual Artist Distortedd Adds Her Flair To The Reebok Instapump Fury

Visual Artist Distortedd Adds Her Flair To The Reebok Instapump Fury

In 2001, Reebok launched a national campaign titled “It’s A Woman’s World” with the help of fearless female figures the likes of Olympic gold-medalist and former WNBA star Jennifer Azzi, tennis champion Venus Williams, and hip-hop icon Missy Elliott to address cultural and gender stereotypes. Today, the brand revisits its defiant initiative with the help of five women spanning the male-dominated music and art industries as part of the new “It’s A Man’s World” campaign. Unlike its first iteration, Reebok’s newest female-empowerment efforts will see its collaborators – including beat-maker-extraordinaire Wondagurl and Girl On Kicks owner Sanne Poeze – tell their status-quo-shattering stories through apparel and footwear. Of the latter, the two aforementioned ladies have updated the Aztrek ’96 and DMX, respectively, while Jazerai Allen-Lord – NerdLikeJazzy – reworks the Club C; Kimberly Drew – MuseumMammy – reimagines the Freestyle Hi; and Anhia Zaira Santana – Distortedd – animates the Instapump Fury. Of the bunch, the chunky silhouette by the Philly-born visual artist is perhaps the most striking.

Using a white Instapump Fury as her canvas, Distortedd decorates her pair with graffiti-style tentacles and eyeballs done in a turquoise, purple, and orange palette that immediately draws your attention. Soft pinks at the toe and heel, as well as translucent lavender outsoles, balance the striking graphics. Influenced by a mix of skate culture, childhood cartoons, and the underground art scene in her hometown, the Philly-artist channels her entire journey – successes and struggles – onto this wearable art-piece. Of the design, Distortedd says it’s “everything that I’ve built so far.”

You can grab this unisex Instapump Fury and the rest of the “It’s A Man’s World” collection at Reebok.com right now with prices ranging from $25 to $180 USD.
