No matter the label, success seems to always follow NIGO, the Japanese designer behind the ever-recognizable A Bathing Ape. And though years since his departure, the streetwear legend still frequently references his past works, be it through his recent collaborative capsule with Louis Vuitton or his on-going series of Human Made branded adidas classics. Now onto its most expansive set yet, the latter partnership is presenting a trio of silhouettes all replete with their own trio of colorways — some of which pay overt homage to many classic BAPESTAS and adjacent replicas.
Of the entire collection, the Rivalry Low is the most bold as its color options pair one vibrant tone with the next. While seemingly random, each affectionately nods to past used colorways from the still beloved BAPESTA. Though blocked in a way distinct, each makes use of the same palettes and tones in a way that doesn’t shed any of the familiarity. Brown mudguards accent adjacent to light creams and pinks on one, saturated reds and yellows arrive detailed by lighter aqua on the next, and a striking Rasta-inspired piece then rounds off the set.
Far more simple, the Stan Smiths fittingly bear the Human Made namesake alongside some frequently used motifs. Hearts take the place of the perforated stripes, marked with red backing and bright white logos. Three lines strike by the corner to honor the adidas signature, while the heel tab and tongue remove typical fixtures for ones filtered through NIGO’s brand of design. Finished with vintage yellowed soles, the pack ushers in a Triple Black, a White/Grey, and a OG-reminiscent White/Green.
The assortment of Campus 80s, while bereft of large changes, mirror the aesthetic of the recently released Superstar capsule. Three Stripe overlays, which are coated with white on all forthcoming pairs, are drawn atop with the “GEARS FOR FUTURISTIC TEENAGERS” slogan, a tagline that has persisted since the imprint’s founding. Red hearts are placed not too far back on the heel tab, while green, blue, and grey suedes treat most of the construction as a loose translation of the somewhat forgotten Crepesta.
Grab a detailed look at the entire collaboration right here and expect a release to arrive at select retailers and likely adidas.com come August 6th.
