Throughout Rei Kawakubo’s well-constructed universe, it seems that each and every diffusion has had its own collaboration this year. CDG Girl dressed the Blazer Low in 1-of-1 dyes, SHIRT colored within the frame of the GEL-Lyte III, and Junya Watanabe had yet another round of minimal New Balance staples. But, without fail, COMME des GARCONS Homme Plus seems to quickly take the reigns as they did prior with their trio of Air Max 95s and now yet again this season with the similarly deconstructed Air Force 1 Mid.
Prepared in two neutral colorways as is fitting, the silhouette mainly lets its construction do the talking. Better witnessed on the white colorway over the black, the upper quickly and aggressively sets itself apart from its GR counterpart as many of the silhouette’s panels are uncut and extended passed the typical stitching. The Swoosh, for example, is only recognizable thanks to such threading as the smooth leathers around barely have any defined shape. This treatment is then mimicked further along the eye stay and forefoot, the latter more eccentric as the perforation-less toe box is primarily shrouded by the overlays adjacent. Elsewhere, the strap — which bears a cut identical to the unrefined aesthetic already established — adorns with “COMME des GARCONS” branding while the heel ends with the classic Nike Air.
