Michael Le In the past, Awake NY‘s collaborative offerings with ASICS were undoubtedly well-received — their duo of GEL-Kayano 5 360s placed high on some 2019 rankings. And now that this year soon to end, the streetwear imprint is hoping for a repeat as they offer the bolder GEL-Preleus.
Revealed in close-ups months ago, the release highlights the 2000s silhouette with pattern-heavy modifications, its themes inspired by Awake’s various travels. Nods to their home base, Paris, and Tokyo are found within, but rather than celebrated individually, each is connected via one cohesive colorway. Like that of the downtown scene, the underlying mesh is loud, dressed entirely in a greyscale leopard print. At the profile, more subdued and robust panels of silver metallic form the signature Tiger Stripe, while adjacent there lies somewhat retro-influenced hits of blue and green.
