For most of the 21st century, Nike has gripped the keys to the vault rather tightly, relying on time-tested re-issues rather than re-exploring the brand’s greatest hits. There are a number of factors that determine whether or not the brand decides on revisiting a sneaker for the first time (factors that are largely financial), but over the last few years, Nike has seemed to rip open the floodgates as some of the most cherished sneakers from the 90s have been making their return.
That’s particularly the case with Air Max runners as we’ve seen some of the franchise’s more memorable models return to store shelves, and in 2021, Nike is honoring the 25th Anniversary of one of its most storied years with the Air Max 96 II. Seen here in official images, Nike is indeed bringing back the original “Goldenrod” colorway that sees a dark davy mesh base, a sporty racing stripe in yellow that spans from toe to heel, and a white overlay with a rib-cage like construction. Most importantly, Nike is bringing back the original mold for the sole, almost making us forget about the Air Max 96 II XX attempt from years ago. However, it must be pointed out that the Air unit volume at the heel is significantly smaller than the OG.
A release date nor a price is currently unknown, but a shoe of this nature will likely fall in the Air Max 95 range of $170-190. For the younger generation that has no connection to this shoe, how about the Vapormax Evo?
