Despite having a tremendously-successful 2020, the New Balance 992 has kept relatively quiet throughout the first four months of the new year. Although it’s likely to allow the spotlight for other NB sneakers, the late Steve Jobs-approved silhouette has recently surfaced in a grey and purple colorway that might suggest otherwise.
Akin to countless iterations before it, the forthcoming pair indulges in a greyscale arrangement across its fabric base. Premium pig suede overlays from toe to spine deviate from the understated tone in favor of varying shades of purple; mudguards boast the darkest hue. Elsewhere, off-white swathes appear along the tongue, sitting just above charcoal-reminiscent “N” logos at the mid-foot. Tongues and heel underlays indulge in a shimmering aesthetic, which seldom appears on New Balance‘s footwear. Underfoot, ABZORB-featuring sole units maintain an oft-utilized split style that delivers some vintage-sensibility to the 15-year-old design.
An official NewBalance.com launch may be in the works, but this 992 is currently listed as arriving to select boutiques tomorrow, May 1st.
