New Balance Prepares For “Grey Day” Celebration With The 574 And 57/40

New Balance Prepares For “Grey Day” Celebration With The 574 And 57/40

From Steve Jobs to supermodels on their days off from the runway, countless individuals have worn a grey New Balance pair. Naturally, then, the Boston-based brand began a fictional holiday – “Grey Day” – to celebrate the neutral tone most often associated with its footwear. And for the latest observance, the North American manufacturer has outfitted the New Balance 574 and New Balance 57/40 in shades of grey.

While both silhouettes have previously indulged in the aforementioned tone, neither have received the arrangement brought about by 2021’s “Grey Day” celebration. The older NB 574 has previously partaken in the fictional holiday, but with an aesthetic in-line with what’s become easily available at a number of retailers. By comparison, the model’s forthcoming commemorative take dons a premium, purposely-“aged” look complete with no “N” logos on the lateral mid-foot. Instead, the shoes boast the brand’s name on the medial side, leaving its counterpart blank. Branding throughout the remainder of the shoe receives a shimmering golden finish appropriate of “Grey Day”.

Although a newer addition to the NB sneakers lineup, the 57/40 has already emerged in New Balance’s go-to hue. Yet, its inclusion in the newly-surfaced collection delivers a new style to the heritage-inspired, modern-day footwear proposition. The mix of materials throughout the upper indulge in varying shades of grey, with the darkest tones appearing around the heel. Overside “N” logos on the profiles boast a leather build, as does the toe box and ankle area. Labels on the tongue forgo any metallic flair, but robust off-white midsoles make a statement of their own. Lastly, tread indulges in an understated all-black composition.

Enjoy images of the “Grey Day” options for 2021 here below, and anticipate pairs arriving to select stockists before May ends.

Elsewhere under the Boston-based brand’s umbrella, the New Balance 550 is ready to drop in a handful of summer-ready colorways.

UPDATE (05/13/2021):
Dubbed the New Balance 574 “Un-N-ding,” the pair has been confirmed to have drawn inspiration from Apple’s sneaker emoji (👟) by a representative of New Balance. The 574 will be available in unisex sizing beginning with an M4.
