Michael Le Back in 2020, Joe Freshgoods and New Balance released what was arguably the best collaboration of the year. And soon, the two will bring the same energy into 2021, presenting a MADE 990v3 and numerous apparel influenced by the outdoors.
Appropriately dubbed “Outside Clothes,” the capsule strings together a rather personal narrative, one that takes a nostalgic look at Joe Freshgoods’ childhood. The 990v3 itself draws directly from nature, its premium brown suede a mirror to the dirt the designer played atop all those years ago. Adjacent, the blue mesh looks opposite to the sky, rounding out an idyllic homage aided further by vivid, grass-inspired accents.
“I didn’t realize until last year how much the act of being outside had played a major part in my career,” Joe Freshgoods commented. “Sometimes it takes something being taken away from you to realize what it means to you. And that’s really what inspired this shoe. To me, being told you smell like outside represents the early stages of what fun meant. From neighborhood block parties to hanging on the porch all day with your homies, you knew you had a wild day when your mom said you smelled like outside.”
