Reintroduced to a new audience in September 2020, the New Balance 2002R has been one of the brand’s more exciting propositions of the last few years. Through an updated sole unit, compelling general releases and special collaborations, the “dad shoe” has found a home in rotations belonging to savvy and casual consumers alike. Most recently, the early 2000s runner has launched in six colorways exclusive to J.Crew.
While not touted as anything other than a batch of sneakers only available at the North American outfitter, some of the newly-surfaced options ostensibly take inspiration from past joint-efforts by New Balance. “Incense/Heliotrope” and “Sulphur Yellow/Silver M” styles, for example, are reminiscent of nonnative x KITH and MiE Aries collaborations, respectively. Other mixed-materials-donning pairs simply boast color schemes that just work. Construction hasn’t been altered much from the model’s standard build, although some iterations include “NERGY” branding on the profile “N” logo instead of on the lateral midsole. ABZORB and ABZORB SBS cushioning underfoot deliver tried-and-proven comfort.
Enjoy a brief look at all six pairs here below, and find most still available right now via jcrew.com for $130 USD.
For more from under the Boston-based brand’s umbrella, the New Balance 550 is set to close out 2021 with handfuls of new styles.
