Jovani Hernandez Aubrey “Drake” Graham has come a long way since 2009, a year during which he was associated with a “fake” Air Jordan 5. Over the last 12 years, everyone’s favorited “certified lover boy” has received special sneakers from NIKE, Inc., as well as pushed limited editions of Michael Jordan’s signature sneakers. As October gets underway, however, Toronto’s lead ambassador has joined the ranks of those ever-fortunate to receive their very own shoe as the NOCTA x Nike Hot Step Air Terra has finally been unveiled via official images.
Teased in his music video for “Laugh Now Cry Later,” which essentially doubled as a Nike commercial, the forthcoming shoe has been prepped under Drake’s NOCTA banner, a division inspired by the nocturnal grind. While the rapper himself hasn’t shared inspiration behind the model’s design, the sneaker’s name reveals some Nike ACG lineage. The chunky, Air Max unit-utilizing midsole is coupled with an aggressive tread pattern that is sure to make travel from any “ends” to a trail seamless. Partly-perforated tumbled leather across the upper follows a layered, curved arrangement along the profiles, evoking Swoosh designs from the 1990s. NOCTA logos appear on the top of the tongue and sock-liner, while “G-TEK” branding appears on the spine, an outsole technology found on 1999’s Air Terra Humara.
No release date has been disclosed by the brand, but Drake’s first sneaker design is likely to debut on Nike SNKRS before October ends. In any case, enjoy official images of the pair here below.
