In 15 years, Montreal-based, JJJJound, has gone from digital mood board to creative agency working on solo and collaborative projects with Vans, Bassi and A.P.C., among others. On October 14th, the Justin Saunders-led label will release a navy New Balance 990v4.
While much more understated than the New Balance 992 duo JJJJound dropped in August 2020, the newly-surfaced pair delivers a “reworked” proposition instead of a simple paint job. Premium pig suede and mesh throughout the pair’s upper boasts muted navy and black hues that work in-tandem with the ENCAP midsole technology for an aesthetic that pars well with dark tonal loungewear. “JJJJound”-branding appears on the spine and sock-liner, as well as the special edition box. The five-year-old silhouette’s reflective detailing reprises its standard role, but the included secondary elastic laces introduce newfound functionality to the New Balance sneaker via a logo-molded toggle lace-keeper. Together, the aforementioned components create a look that feels authentic to both parties involved.
Enjoy official imagery of the shoes here below, and prepare to pay $265 USD at JJJJound.com on October 14th for a pair. A global launch via NewBalance.com will follow on October 21st at 10am ET.
