Before the Swoosh revolutionized the world of performance-running with Air Max, Free and ZoomX technologies, it did so with the now-outdated Nike Daybreak. As part of its on-going efforts to make what’s old, new, the brand has included the waffle-pattern-donning sneaker in its retro-themed “Nike Athletic Club” collection.
Set to drop alongside Air Force 1 and other related silhouettes, the newly-surfaced pair maintains a relatively quiet arrangement across its light grey and off-white-colored upper. Nylon and suede take over much of the sneaker’s top-half, but profile swooshes indulge in a synthetic leather stylized with cracking surely nodding to the model’s 1979 debut year. Sidewall logos join the laces and branding on the tongue label and sock-liner in boasting a heritage-informed vibrant orange; traditional branding on the top of the tongue is replaced with the collection’s name, done in a typeface transported from decades past. Lastly, “DAYBREAK” is debossed on the shoes’ lateral heels, adding a final touch of luxury to the offering.
