This Nike Air Force 1 Ostensibly References The AJ1 CO.JP “Midnight Navy”

Nike is often referencing itself, whether past colorways, releases, or even moments in history. And with its newly modified take on the Air Force 1, the brand is evoking memories of the Air Jordan 1 CO.JP “Midnight Navy.”

The similarities are most apparent in color, not material. Instead of a premium nubuck, tumbled leather is what’s dressed up in the titular blue. This robust material wraps over top a white base, whose finish features a similar texture. Behind, the heel tab, too, is treated to the same neutral execution, albeit with the addition of a silver-casted “Nike Air” logo. This branding — alongside the matching, cut-out Swoosh and tongue label — adds to the overall resemblance, which is clear even despite the subtle differences across the lining, tread, and lace unit.

In other news, two sacai Blazer Lows are coming very soon.
