Detailed Look At The sacai x Nike Cortez

Well before the LDWaffle — which effectively molded sneaker culture’s impression of Chitose Abe’s work — sacai released an Air Max 90 and Dunk High, both of which were far simpler than anything they’ve put out as of recent. And while long-forgotten, the two models show a side to the label we haven’t seen in a long while, one that rears its head with their next silhouette of choice: the Cortez.

Unlike sacai’s Waffle-soled classic and subsequent VaporWaffle, this pair is not akin to one of Frankenstein’s monsters. Rather, the model is far more straightforward, relying on the classic design of the Cortez. Even the colorway is reminiscent of Bill Bowerman’s creation, opting for white leathers and red and blue accents. It’s then that Chitose Abe applies her touch: the Swooshes are doubled (one overlaid, the other printed); the sole is futuristic, stacked and improved with additional cushioning; and the shoe itself seems to be made up of not one but two uppers.

For a closer look at the sacai x Nike Cortez, check out the leaked imagery below. Currently, no firm release date has been announced, but we’ll likely see these before the end of the 2022.

In other news, Pharrell recently unveiled his latest adidas offering: the Hu NMD S1 RYAT.
