Today, gaming is an inescapable piece of pop culture, with technological advances — such as the PS5 and RTX3080 — almost impossible to obtain. But well-before the adoption of Ray Tracing and VR, the industry developed primarily in 8-Bit, creating icons like Super Mario as well as Contra. And here, Jordan Brand is ostensibly paying homage to that era with this kids Air Jordan 1 Low.
Much like the Famicom, the base of the shoe is rendered almost entirely in white, the neutral dressing the forefoot and lace unit as it does the midsole and lining. Color is relegated mostly to the back half, with blue and dusk skies painted onto the mid-panel and green-cemented bricks the heel counter. Adjacent, the Swoosh sits atop a print that’s heavily pixelated, likening the logo to retro graphics. Moreover, the lining is clad with various pick-ups — e.g. hearts, diamonds, fruits, etc. — while the sockliner displays a gold trophy emblazoned with the number 6.
