Throughout a year dominated by the Air Force 1’s 40th anniversary, Tinker Hatfield’s iconic 1990 silhouette has boastfully been enjoying 30 plus years of influence. Through a series of tributes to M. Frank Rudy and the Air packed bubbles he’s responsible for creating, the Air Max 97 and Vapormax Flyknit 2021 both introduced us to the Beaverton brands initial homage. However, its secondary collection instead focuses solely on the barometric pressure found in the various model’s air-infused midsoles, with the Air Max 90 entering the foray of neutral tones and brightly-hued contrasts.
Debuting the aesthetic and accompanying “PSI” hangtag on the Air Max 97, its predecessor by seven years emboldens clean “Summit White” mesh with a muted “Sesame” shade outfitting the leather overlays of the mudguard and midfoot. Directly beneath, a more vibrantly colored proposition livens the suede panel that houses the ridged mustard yellow “AIR MAX” branding. The presiding hue additionally treats the forefoot eyestay while its adjacent counterpart renders a “Safety Orange” accent that fills the models midfoot Swooshes. Similar to the sketched Swooshes and blueprint insoles found in the M. Frank Rudy pack, the heel counter bears a hand drawn logo beneath a translucent tab whereas underfoot, the ridged midsole features a jet black scheme above a concluding gum tread.
