Jovani Hernandez Despite dozens of sneakers being teased and released over the last seven days, the week in sneaker news was dominated by the termination of Ye’s partnership with adidas.
Regardless of what side of the battle you’re on, Kanye West’s break up with the Three Stripes will have an impact on not only the footwear business, but adjacent ones as well. Retailers have been instructed to remove all adidas Yeezy products from sales floors, as well as to hold off on any sales of stockroom items, although the brand has hinted that it will resume sales of these products at one point but without Yeezy branding.
Mr. West has gone on to apologize for the same anti-semitic comments that led adidas to terminate its relationship with him, but the move is a little too late. The Three Stripes had fallen under criticism for holding off severing ties with the 45-year-old creative, with some netizens even criticizing its lack of action during previous controversial moments in Ye’s public life (namely the “slavery was a choice” comments he made while at TMZ’s offices in 2018). Nevertheless, the Three Stripes is most likely to be fine in the long term, as it continues to find business opportunities across sport and fashion.
