Although frequented by tourists, Taquería Orinoco in Mexico City is far from being a tourist trap. Foreigners and locals alike wait eagerly in line at any of the restaurant’s locations, with the Roma Norte location frequently hosting (late) late night meals for visitors and residents (the place closes at 6 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays!). Walking by such a scene could have you wondering what the hype is about, but if you’ve ever eaten the “trompo,” “campechana” or other types of tacos there, you understand.
adidas recently took a trip to Avenida Alvaro Obregón 179 to try the food for itself as part of its adilicious collection. Surely enamored by the the clean white-and-red decor, typical taquería typeface adorning everything from the menu to the walls, and in-sync staff, the Three Stripes decided to commemorate Taquería Orinoco with a special edition adidas Forum Low.
Akin to the 10 other propositions from the adilicious series, which highlights 11 emblematic restaurants from around the world, the latest adidas Originals offering places its muse front-and-center, donning the taquería’s logo–an upside-down pig in a tortilla–at the lateral heel. The made-for-basketball design borrows Orinico’s straightforward and eye-catching two-tone color scheme, with various shades of white taking over most of the upper and sole unit. The sneaker comes served with a few lace options, including a white-and-red set that features the different types of meats served at the beloved restaurant. Through adilicious, the Three Stripes brings authentic food stories–and the people behind them–to the forefront.
Enjoy campaign imagery for Taquería Orinoco’s Forum Low ahead, and find the shoes available via the adidas CONFIRMED app and select shops across Mexico on Wednesday, November 17th.
