With the Lunar New Year fast approaching, some of the biggest players in the sneaker space have used the end of December 2022 as grounds to tease their collections for the event. The latest?: New Balance with an understated, but on-theme 550.
Although the North American institution has yet to unveil the project, several outlets across Asia have begun touting a newly-surfaced, predominantly white-colored pair as the New Balance 550 “Lunar New Year.” The sneakers’ upper maintains a tried-and-proven smooth and perforated leather arrangement throughout the upper, with some contrast arriving in the form of off-white and drab beige hues at the mid-foot, collar, and lower heel areas. Maroon flair enters the mix via New Balance branding on the top of the tongue and spine, evoking themes of happiness, success, and good fortune.
