Updated June 19th, 2023: Samuel Ross reveals a royal blue colorway of his A-COLD-WALL* x Nike Air Max Plus collaboration.
Samuel Ross has been churning out industry-leading designs via his A-COLD-WALL* imprint for years. Over the last six months, the English designer has helped promote Converse’s future-forward vision, but now he’s taken a break to reimagine the Nike Air Max Plus.
Understated in color scheme, the A-COLD-WALL* x Air Max Plus features a number of updates to Sean McDowell’s original creation from 1998. Popular in Ross’ native England, the inaugural Tuned Air silhouette appears with reworked TPU overlays along the sides, leather — not mesh — base layers, and a number of semi-transparent panels. The backstory behind Ross’ latest project with NIKE, Inc. hasn’t been disclosed, but that’s likely to be revealed soon. What’s already certain, however, is that the late Virgil Abloh’s mentee has kept things understated for his first Air Max collaboration. Yet, the unreleased duo is unquestionably an A-COLD-WALL* project given the number of co-branding hits throughout the shoe. Ross has also reworked traditional Nike Air Max logos on the black and white sneakers to cement his mark on the historic sportswear brand’s legacy. Lastly, shoe boxes also get the “Samuel Ross” treatment, bearing some semblance to boxes from the Off-White x NIKE, Inc. lineup.
Enjoy official photos of the two pairs ahead, while you wait for a Nike SNKRS launch.
