While Michael Jordan’s retro line has become inexplicably linked with His Airness, the Nike Air Alpha Force 88 resides in that if you know you know space of obscure footwear connected to #23. Worn against the New York Knicks in January of 1988, the Beaverton-based brand now returns the hardwood relic 35 years after its debut.
Crisp white tumbled leather uppers, ribbed “University Red” collars and jet-black forefoot straps all imbue the retro proposition with true-to-spec details pulled directly from the 35th-anniversary model’s late 80s introduction. A heavily perforated vamp exercises old-school breathability while further crimson hues illuminate the mid-foot Swoosh, lace loops, tread and Nike lettering affixed to the rubber strap. The pitch-dark allure concentrates further along the trim of the overlays and across the tongue’s basketball insignia whereas a seldom sliver of grey enters the mix at the heel’s midsole.
The Nike Air Alpha Force 88 “University Red” is scheduled to release this Saturday, July 15th in men’s-exclusive sizing for a retail price of $140. In the meantime, enjoy one last look at the pair below alongside our accompanying store list to grab your pair.
In other news, the women’s-exclusive Air Jordan 3 “Oreo” has been added to the Jumpman’s Holiday 2023 lineup.
