Following this past Spring’s annual Air Max Day, Nike has reinvigorated the iconic Air Max 1 with a litany of reissued versions of OG ensembles. From the return of the “Big Bubble” treatment to remixing the circa 2003 “Chilli” ensemble, the latest Tinker Hatfield design now arrives on shelves tomorrow in an homage to the Urawa Dragons of the J League Football Club.
Originally released in 2004, the updated sequel effectively flips the color blocking of the mid-2000s colorway. In a stark departure from its 19-year-old original ensemble, “University Red” is transitioned into a seldom accent that coats the uppermost eyelets and the Air Max cushioning system underfoot. The surrounding palette is cured in monochrome hues exclusively – save the golden metallic tongue tabs. Jet-black mesh at the base layer comes immediately contrasted by a crisp white set of laces and profile swooshes as further colorless applications amplify the midsole and the quarter overlay. What’s more, the full-length mudguard, mid-foot panel, tongue construction and inner lining achieve a blank “Pure Platinum” finish which amplifies the heel counter’s embroidered Urawa Dragon insignia.
The Nike Air Max 1 “Urawa” is scheduled to release on Tuesday, October 2nd, in adult sizing for a retail price of $160. In the meantime, the pair can be seen one last time in detailed imagery below alongside our accompanying store list.
For more lifestyle efforts, the New Balance 991v2 extends a greyscale effort.
